La temporada de premios de la música está comenzando, y el 11 de agosto los premios musicales de MTV anunciaron los nominados de este 2021.

Así los MTV Video Music Awards 2021 tienen a Justin Bieber liderando la lista de nominados con siete posibilidades de llevarse un Moon Person a casa. Seguido por Megan Thee Stallion con seis nominaciones. Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X y Olivia Rodrigo, nominada por primera vez, obtuvieron cinco nominaciones cada uno.

El 12 de septiembre se llevará a cabo la premiación en el Barclays Center en Brooklyn, New York, con la votación para los fans abierta hasta el 3 de septiembre, en las 14 categorías de género neutro. 

A pesar de que la variante Delta de la covid-19 está cruzando Estados Unidos, los VMAS serán una de las primeras entregas de premios llenas de fanáticos en Nueva York desde la reciente reapertura de la ciudad. Todo apegado a estrictas medidas de sanidad.

Para celebrar el 40 aniversario de MTV, Kehinde Wiley diseñó un nuevo trofeo, el Moon Person está lleno de enredaderas.
